Crochet Christmas Gifts - Bernat Toddler Hoodie
My younger sister always finds the most adorable clothes for her daughter. When I visited her a few months ago she showed me an absolutely gorgeous dress that she had bought. It was black with big white polka dots with a few hot pink dots thrown in. Since she knew I wanted to crochet something for my niece for Christmas she requested that I make her a little jacket to match the dress.
We searched the internet looking for any and all patterns for toddler jackets and finally decided on the *free* Toddler Hoodie pattern by Bernat. If you have never perused the patterns at www.bernat.com, I encourage you to do so. Their Color Clicker feature is absolute genius.

I was a little nervous when beginning this pattern because I had never attempted an intermediate pattern. I was extremely thrilled to find that the pattern was pretty easy to follow once I got the hang of the stitch pattern and the pieces worked up really quickly.
I used Caron Simply Soft Brites in Watermelon for this jacket since I am a sucker for the stuff. The stitch pattern for the jacket is very easy, but really pretty. It's also a loose stitch so the fabric is super stretchy and amazingly soft.
Normally, when I do a pattern that calls for sewing, I just slip stitch or single crochet the pieces together since I absolutely loathe sewing. However, I decided to go ahead and sew all of the seams for this jacket. I had a little trouble sewing the back seam for the hood, but the rest of the seams were really easy. Most of the time spent on this hoodie was used sewing and weaving in ends.
I am really happy with the way this turned out and I hope my niece loves it!
